:: JOE GIBBS MUSIC (1980-1983) Hip-Hop titles

Early RAP 12" story (pt.09)

This bronx located record label was in fact a cross-over genre label. Reggae oriented, from JAMAICA, Joe GIBBS (aka Joe GIBSON) openned an U.S division to distribute his jamaican releases. As, you may know, "toasting" was common to reggae and RAP M.C's. That's the reason why, some recordings of JOE GIBBS are pure RAP reprises. Re-lived this area and enjoy our high quality scans.

:: ABC Records # AB-1003 - BAUTISTA

ABC records Soul & Funk Albums (pt.37)

Year 1977 continues for ABC with a surprising recording offer by BAUTISTA of EARTH, WIND & FIRE. His first solo album delivers more personnals feelings of Roland (all titles are written by him), and turns more into jazz-funk sounds thanks to the WAYNE HENDERSON production. It wasn't rare to find solo albums of performers and sessionnists, as recording corp. weren't afraid at that period to sign them. Notice that FANTASY group SIDE EFFECT co-performed the vocals on this set, and that the LP was recorded at TOTAL EXPERIENCE RECORDINGS studios (Probably one of the first materials on this brothers SIMMONS / GAP BAND studio). :: ABC Records # AB-999 - LAKESIDE

ABC records Soul & Funk Albums (pt.35)

YES !!! That's the same group that the one that will burn the dancefloor with their S.O.L.A.R hits ! Before being bringing up by Dick GRIFFEY, that group formed in 1969, used to perform as "LAKESIDE EXPRESS". Even if they concluded a record deal with CURTOM in 1971 (no material came out), and later with MOTOWN in 1975(two 7" singles were released) nothing big never came. In 1977 the group signed with ABC records. Their first LP then came, but it didn't reached the charts. This LP is far away from their future sound, but is a piece of the history Find full detail of this set here, and enjoy it with our high quality scans.

:: ABC Records # AB-998 - BOOTY PEOPLE

ABC records Soul & Funk Albums (pt.34)

During 1977, ABC turned onto Heavy Funk with BOOTY PEOPLE ! Far from their "usual" soul / funk releases, ABC signed this new group after they came to the highlights on CALLA with their single "Spirit of '76". You will surprised, watching at the group composition to discover that Mitch McDOWELL (of later GENARAL CAINE group) was the leader player of that this exprience. Also interesting fact, is to note that other members of WAR were concerned by this project. That explains the "funkadelik" heavy sound of that set.
